Lake Campgrounds
Lake campgrounds feature one prominent feature that most other campgrounds lack. Can you guess what it is? If you said a lake, you were close. Most lakeside campgrounds feature a nearby point of entry for a boat to the lake, such as a boat ramp.
Why else would you use a lake campground? Well actually there are many reasons to do so. Even if you don’t own a boat, lakes are a beautiful site to go camping. They offer beaches, trails, shore side fishing, and even just swimming. All of these are activities you won’t normally get to enjoy while camping.
Of course, lake campgrounds aren’t all sunshine and kittens. Lakes are naturally cooler than the surrounding land, which can make for a chilly night out on the shore. Open water is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes, so if you plan on camping out there, be sure to pack some insect repellent. And of course if you have young children, you’ll need to keep extra close attention to them while near the water.
